Mediaeval Ways
The round tour through Europe starts with the glass houses in the vast forests that cover the mountain ridge between Bavaria and Bohemia, today’s Czech Republic. In the uprising city culture of the Middle Ages the forest glass-makers found new markets for drinking vessels and coloured glass panes. In the gothic cathedrals the spiritual connection of the earthly and the heavenly city unfolded with the light and imagery of radiating stained glass windows – such as they can be experienced in the cathedral of the City of Regensburg, expressing an overarching European cultural movement spanning from Prague to French Gothic.
